Sprinkle Kindness!

Sprinkle Kindness throughout your school with this fun activity! I know most of y’all have seen “The Jelly Donut Difference” by Maria Dismondy posted about all over Instagram and Pinterest! I finally got the chance to read it to my students and it did not disappoint! I highly recommend using it in your classroom. There are so many different activities that you can do with it and some great talking points throughout the book.

This past week, we used it during our weekly “Multiage Morning Meeting”. Every week our three multiage 3/4 classes get together to have a morning meeting as a large group. It is the highlight of our students week! Each meeting we greet, share, read a morning message highlighting happenings going on in our classroom, celebrate our “Star Student of the Week”, read a character education book and complete a fun activity! It is so amazing to see our students help each other and share and interact with those they don’t see or talk with on a daily basis.

Our character ed book this week was “The Jelly Donut Difference”. This story highlights twin siblings who spread kindness to their lonely neighbor by inviting her over for dinner, building  family of snowmen outside of her house and delivering special jelly donuts to her house. It can lead into great discussions about how a small act of kindness can really make someone’s day or week and how we should think of others.

After the story, we had our students spread kindness and encouragement throughout our school by writing “sprinkles of encouragement” that others can grab when they are feeling down! We created “donut worry” posters to hang around our school and had our students add the sprinkles filled with quotes and words of encouragement! It was fun to watch other grade levels grab a sprinkle as they walked by! 🙂

When they finished their sprinkle, they of course were rewarded with a little sprinkle of their own and got to snack on a delicious donut hole! Finally, to end the activity, our kiddos spread more kindness throughout our school by writing more kind words outside of all of the entrances of our school with chalk! They had a blast and we overheard many students talking as we walked back to our rooms about how much fun our meeting was!

Spreading kindness & having fun at the same time – I call that a win! 🙂 Grab this donut poster here to use it to spread kindness in your own school! We created the posters using our school’s poster maker. If that is not available to you, you can always use the “poster” option when you print to enlarge the picture and place it together after!
